RV Link: Connect Your RV to Home Assistant
RV Link bridges your coach’s RV-C CAN network with Home Assistant, giving you full control and monitoring of your systems from a beautiful, modern dashboard. It's open, powerful, and built for the DIY enthusiast.
Why Choose RV Link?
Total Control
Manage your lights, shades, locks, pumps, and HVAC systems from a single interface, whether you're inside the coach or miles away.
Real-Time Monitoring
Keep an eye on tank levels, battery voltage, charger/inverter status, and generator performance with at-a-glance dashboards.
Open & Extensible
Built on open-source software, RV Link is fully customizable. Add support for new devices or integrate with other smart home platforms.
Key Features
- Auto-Discovery: Automatically finds compatible RV-C devices and creates Home Assistant entities.
- Bidirectional Communication: Read real-time status from your RV and send commands back to control devices.
- Comprehensive Device Support: Works with a wide range of standard RV-C devices, including lighting, shades, locks, tanks, batteries, and power systems.
- Reliable & Offline-Capable: Runs entirely inside your RV, no internet connection required for core functionality.
- DIY Friendly: Detailed guides for building the hardware and installing the software yourself.
- Pre-Assembled Option: Purchase a ready-to-go unit for a plug-and-play experience.
How It Works
- CAN Bridge Hardware: A Raspberry Pi with a CAN HAT connects directly to your RV's RV-C network wiring.
- CAN to MQTT Software: A lightweight Home Assistant add-on reads all RV-C messages from the bus and publishes them to a local MQTT broker.
- Node-RED Processing: A powerful Node-RED project subscribes to the MQTT messages, decodes the RV-C data, and translates it into a format Home Assistant understands.
- Home Assistant Integration: Using MQTT Discovery, Home Assistant automatically creates and configures entities for all your RV's devices, ready to be added to your dashboard.
